YoLink Outdoor Gate Sensor Information Guide

Detailed Information On The YoLink Outdoor Gate \ Door Contact Sensor

For homeowners and property managers looking to enhance security and automate their outdoor spaces or large area indoor spaces, the YoLink Smart Outdoor Gate/Door Contact Sensor (model YS7707-UC for US/Canada or YS7707-EC for UK/Europe) offers a robust, long-range solution.

The LoRa wireless sensor provides reliable monitoring of gates, shed doors, and other outdoor access points without the need for complex wiring or monthly fees

The European EC version operates on the 868 MHz LoRa band, giving it up to 400 m line-of-sight range.

The sensor is built for outdoor use (IP63 rain-resistant housing), and runs on two AA batteries.

A YoLink Hub (sold separately) is required to get remote alerts and smart-home integration. Only one hub is required to connect all YoLink smart devices

Key Features & Applications

  • Dry contact sensor – Includes a magnet and reed switch to sense a gate/door. You can remove the magnet and wire the sensor into any normally-open/closed dry contacts (such as security contacts, switches, relays, alarm panels, etc.) to make them smart.
  • Long-range LoRa radio – Uses LoRa for very long range (up to 400 m open-air). This far exceeds Wi-Fi or Zigbee ranges, letting you monitor remote buildings or outdoor spaces easily.
  • Outdoor-ready – Rugged IP63-rated housing withstands dust and rain spray (60° angle). Designed for outdoor doors, gates, pool gates, etc.
  • Long battery life – Powered by 2×AA batteries (included); with low-power operation it can last ~5+ years under typical use. Lithium AA cells are recommended for cold environments.
  • Local D2D control – Built-in “YoLink Control” lets the sensor directly trigger other YoLink devices (e.g. turn on a light or siren) without needing internet or cloud.
  • Smart-home integration – Works with Alexa (via the YoSmart skill), IFTTT, and has an official Home Assistant integration.

Usage examples:
1) Ideal for supervising gates, garage doors, fences, pool gates, garden side gates or storage lids. For example, you could place the sensor on a driveway gate or pool gate to get phone alerts or trigger lights when opened.

2) In a remote barn or outbuilding you can pair it with YoLink smart power outlets to turn on lights if the door opens.

3) It can replace legacy wired sensors: by wiring into an existing alarm panel’s dry-contact loop, it adds wireless monitoring to old security systems.

4) You might also attach it to a safe or storage cabinet and have it alert (or turn on cameras) on unauthorised openings.

Specifications & Buying Guide

When shopping, note that the EC model is specifically for EU/UK use (868 MHz LoRa) and the UC model is specifically for the US and Canada. The sensor requires a YoLink Hub to function and connect to your home network. It’s sold individually or in kits with a Hub and multiple sensors. Two AA batteries (alkaline) are included. The enclosure is IP63-rated, meaning it’s dust-tight and can resist water \ rain spray (up to a 60° angle).

Installation & Setup

Connecting to the YoLink Hub

The sensor requires a YoLink Speaker Hub (models: YS1604-UC for US/Canada or YS1604-EC for UK/Europe). The hub connects to your home router via Ethernet or WiFi, giving the hub internet access..

Pairing Process Using QR Code

  • Power up the YoLink hub: Connect to your network and wait for status lights to indicate proper connection
  • Install the YoLink app: Available on iOS and Android
  • Add the sensor:
    • Open the YoLink app
    • Go to top right of app and click the QR scan icon (a square with line through the middle)
    • Scan the QR code located on the contact sensor
    • Follow in-app instructions to complete pairing
  • Test connectivity: Verify the sensor appears online in the app

Physically Install Sensor

  1. Positioning: Place the sensor housing on the fixed frame and the magnet on the moving part of the gate/door. The LoRa wireless signal is excellent at penetrating through metal, brick and other materials when compared to other wireless technology, like WiFi. The magnet must be within 18 mm of the sensor when closed.
  2. Mounting: Clean surfaces with rubbing alcohol. Use screws (preferred) or adhesive to mount the magnet and reed switch. Attach the main sensor housing using adhesive or screws. Try to shelter the contact as much as possible.
  3. Verify & Test: Open and close the gate. The LED should flash, and the app should reflect the status change. Reposition if needed, then finalise mounting.

LoRa Technology

The YoLink system utilises LoRa (Long Range) technology, which operates on different frequency bands depending on your region:

  • 915MHz for the YS7707-UC (US/Canada model)
  • 868MHz for the YS7707-EC (UK/Europe model)

This low-power, wide-area network technology enables 1/4 mile range while maintaining excellent battery life. Unlike Wi-Fi or Bluetooth devices, LoRa signals penetrate obstacles better and are ideal for outdoor applications.

Device-to-Device (D2D) Control

A unique feature is Device-to-Device (D2D) pairing, which allows direct communication between YoLink devices without requiring WiFi or internet connectivity. For example, you can pair your contact sensor with a YoLink siren so the alarm sounds immediately when the gate opens, even if your Wifi or internet is down

Smart Home Integration & Automations

The YoLink Hub connects the contact sensor to the internet and other if required other smart home platforms. In Alexa, you can ask about sensor status or create routines – for example, “Alexa, turn on the porch light when the gate opens.” In Home Assistant, the sensor is supported and appears as a contact sensor entity for automations like triggering lights or sending alerts. IFTTT is also supported for cross-platform integrations.

Final Thoughts

The YoLink Smart Outdoor Gate/Door Contact Sensor offers a reliable, long-range solution for monitoring and securing property access points. Its combination of LoRa technology, impressive battery life, and flexible automation options make it stand out in the smart home security market. While requiring a separate hub, the system’s reliability and lack of monthly fees make it a cost-effective choice for long-term use.
