- A Ecowitt Gateway or Display console is required. See Compatibility table
- Install the battery when the rain gauge is in its final location. This prevents false data being collect due to movement.
- Use the built-in spirit level to get the gauge perfectly level for accurate readings
- Included U bolts can be used to attach the gauge to a 25mm to 50mm pole (not included)

Can the WH40 function independently
No, the WH40 is an accessory sensor and cannot operate on its own. It requires pairing with an Ecowitt gateway or a compatible display console to function properly.
How do I set up the WH40 rain gauge
To set up the WH40:
- Mount the sensor on a level surface, ideally at least 1 meter above the ground.
- Install the included stainless steel filter to prevent debris from clogging the funnel.
- Insert one AA 1.5V LR6 alkaline battery (not included) into the battery compartment.
- Pair the sensor with your Ecowitt gateway or compatible console following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Is the WH40 weather resistant
I wopuld hope so 🙂 The WH40 has an IPX4 protection rating, making it resistant to water splashes from any direction. However, it should not be submerged in water.
How do I view the rainfall data collected by the WH40
Once paired with an Ecowitt gateway, you can view live rainfall data on the WS View Plus or Ecowitt app. Additionally, the data can be uploaded to online platforms.
What maintenance does the WH40 require
Regular maintenance includes:
- Checking and replacing the AA battery approximately every 12 months.
- Ensuring the funnel and filter are free from debris, such as leaves or bird droppings, to maintain accurate measurements.
