Ecowitt Temperature & Humidity Sensors Compared
Ecowitt manufacture a number of different temperature, humidity and pressure sensors. The information and comparison table below shows the differences between each of the Ecowitt sensors.
Ecowitt WH31 (WN31)
The WH31 is a wireless thermometer and hygrometer measures Indoor temperature and humidity, with real time readings shown on its built-in LCD screen. It connects to Ecowitt gateways (sold separately) for remote monitoring.
Key Features
- 8 Channel Support: Monitor temperature and humidity in up to 8 locations (e.g. bedroom, basement, kitchen). Each sensor is assigned a unique channel using dip switches.
- Wireless Monitoring: Transmits data every 60 seconds with a range of up to 100 m (328 ft) in open areas.
- App Access & Alerts: Once paired with a compatible gateway, view data remotely, access graphs and history and set up email alerts.
- Battery Powered: Uses 2x AA batteries (not included). Up to 2 years life.
- Indoor Use Recommended: Designed for use indoors. If placing outdoors, install in a Ecowitt solar radiation shield.
Ecowitt WH32 (aka WN32A, WN32)
The WN32 is designed to be your main outdoor temperature and humidity sensor, with data sent to services like Met Office WoW, Weather Underground, and Ecowitt.net.
Key Features:
- Primary Sensor: Acts as the main source for outdoor readings. When used with a multi sensor array \ Weather Station (e.g. WS80, WS90, WS7-in-1), it overrides the built-in temperature and humidity sensors.
- Not for Extra Readings: This sensor cannot be used as an additional sensor. For extra temperature and humidity readings, use the WH31 multi-channel sensor instead.
- One Per System: Only one WN32 or multi-sensor array can be connected per gateway or console for outdoor temp & humidity reporting.
- Setup Note: You may need to manually enable the “T&H sensor” option on your gateway or console to begin recording data.
Ideal if you want accurate outdoor temperature and humidity readings from a separate location than your main sensor array.
Ecowitt WN31S (aka WH31EP)
The indoor sensor measures temperature and humidity using a high-accuracy SHT35 probe and displays real time data on its built-in screen. It connects to the Ecowitt GW1000 (and other compatible gateways, sold separately) for remote access
Key Features:
- High Accuracy: SHT35 probe for reliable temperature and humidity readings
- Remote Monitoring: View live data on the WS View app after Wi-Fi setup with a compatible gateway
- Multi-Zone Support: Supports up to 8 sensors (additional sensors sold separately)
- Wide Range: 100 m (300 ft) wireless transmission in open areas
- Clear Display: LCD screen with °C/°F selectable
- Data Upload: Option to upload data for history graphs and downloadable records
Ideal for accurate multi-location monitoring in homes, greenhouses, or storage spaces.
Ecowitt WN32S (aka WH32EP and WN32EP)
This sensor measures outdoor temperature and humidity using a high-precision SHT35 probe. It connects to a Ecowitt Gateway
Key Features:
- Accurate Readings: Uses an SHT35 sensor on a 1 m cable for reliable outdoor data.
- Live Monitoring: View real-time temperature and humidity in the WS View app once Wi-Fi setup is complete.
- Data Uploads: Supports uploads to Ecowitt.net, Weather Underground, WeatherCloud, and MetOffice WoW.
- Wireless Range: Up to 100 m (328 ft) in open areas.
- Primary Sensor: Acts as the main outdoor sensor. If used with a multi-sensor array (e.g. WS69, WS90), it will override the built-in sensors.
- Compatibility: Only one WH32/WN32 sensor can be used per gateway or console.
- Setup Note: Make sure to enable the temperature & humidity sensor in the WS View app and on the console if needed.
Ideal for users who want accurate, dedicated outdoor readings separate from a weather station array.
Ecowitt WN30
The sensor has a 3 m (10 ft) waterproof probe, ideal for measuring temperature in water, soil, fridges, freezers, or other hard to reach places.
Key Features:
- Waterproof Probe: Suitable for liquids (water), soil, or enclosed spaces like fridges and swimming pools.
- Accurate Monitoring: Displays current temperature on its built-in LCD screen.
- Remote Access: Pair with a compatible console or the GW1100 Wi-Fi Gateway (sold separately) to view live data in the WS View app or upload for graphing and history downloads.
- Multi Channel Support: Supports up to 8 channels (shared with WH31 sensors).
- Wide Compatibility: Works with HP2551, HP2553, HP3500, HP3501, WH2910 (v2.1.8+), GW1100, and WN1900 consoles.
- Long Range: Transmits data every 61 seconds with a wireless range of up to 100 m (328 ft) in open areas.
Ideal for remote or outdoor temperature monitoring where direct sensor placement isn’t practical.
